Mahal Carpet 8.9 x 12.0 2.71 x 3.65 a classic small pattern Persian allover Herati pattern fills the medium bark brown field of this west Iranian village carpet. The caramel tone main border shows simple reversing turtle palmettes alternating with rosettes and colourful lancet leaves. The field is accented in beige, straw, black and light brown. All the defining elements of the herati are present: lancet or 'fish' leaves, rosettes and open diamonds. The pile is lowish, but the carpet is still quite functional. Circa: 1940 (c68220)
