Kerman Carpet 11.3 x 16.0 3.44 x 4.87 If a Kerman is old enough, it is often termed a 'Lavar' from the town near Kerman which woven some of the best antique pieces. The drawing here is bold with a rustic cochineal medallion filled with palmettes and forked arabesques suspending similar shield pendants on the old ivory ground. Additional palmettes with chunky drawing are spaciously laid out on the field and navy extended corners move up the sides. The ivory and navy borders all display forked tendrils and palmettes. Although worn almost flat, this is a truly noble carpet with ochre, pistachio and celadon accents. Circa: 1900 (35872)
