Back
Antique 19th century Senneh / Senna Persian rug. Beautiful soft colors including a pistachio green and pale yellow, which are typical from this time period. Border has a muted yellow background with some abrash into a more gold yellow background on one end. Some possible fuchsine dye from the 19th century in the small botehs in the border. They are muted beige purple now on the front, but brighter magenta like purple on the back. Finely woven with an average knot count of around 200 per square inch. Wool pile on cotton foundation.
In good condition for its age with some wear and minor tinting in the madder rust color, which appears to be slightly corrosive in some small areas. One closed cut(14” long) at one end that was probably done when it was not very old in order to make it stay flat on floor. This practice of cutting a long thin triangular piece out and then closing, was common in the 19th century to make a rug lay flat. Sides overcast in fine lavender wool. Recently cleaned and not used since cleaning. See photographs, which were taken outdoors on a sunny day without a flash. If you would like more photographs, please message me. i do not accept returns, so please ask questions, and if desired, request more photographs.
