Back
Here is a beautiful old Aleppo kelim fragment from around 1800.
The piece is in decent condition for it's age, not delicate or
brittle at all, fine weave and nice handle. The kelim measures
28" (.7m) wide and 98" (2.5m) long. The colors are stunning
(forgive my photos - lots of smoke here sf coast). There is an
unusual rust/red brown in the upper end border - note the very
simple border used - found in very early examples. Also note the
design changes in the vertical border, also indicates age. Some
loss to corrosive browns and one or two poor restorations. Clean
and ready to put up for show and color for the holidays.
