In the Central Asian Republics, people have made amulets in the shape of a triangle using felt, cloth or silver and used these talismans in various ways. Nomadic tribes, such a the Turkoman attach them to clothing and animal trappings in order to appease supernatural elements, protect against harm and bring good luck or harmony. These talisman came in a variety of sizes and were often embroidered and often carried a few grains of salt or a holy verse. This talisman is embroidered with silk floss on a stained light cotton or linen backing. The colors of the embroidery suggest this was made by a Chodor Turkoman bride, wife and or mother. The use of old aniline purple suggests a date as far back as the end of the 19th. century. - the tassels are interesting, note the old white heart red beads used. The talisman measures 6 1/4" wide x 8" from top to tassels.
