An exceptional antique Turkoman Turkmen Chodor tribe silk embroidered hat dating to the 19th century. Though the hat is somewhat fragmented, i think it was reduced from a larger hat and done so at some point during its early history. Silk was valued as much as gold in central Asian during 19th century, so rather than wasting, items were recycled. The fine silk embroidery is mind blowing (even finer than peking forbidden stitch). The colours are magnificence. But it is the clarity of the motifs with beautiful intricacy that suggest it is older than most examples. The chain stitched embroidery is beautifully done on bannat wool (typical of all chodor tribe textiles). a full piece would a cost a fortune, therefore the price of this example is very reasonable. size: 23cm (9”) x 20cm (8”).
