Back
Central Asian pieced bag. Out of Tibet. Old.. Possibly Khirgiz or Uzbek ?? I've seen other examples of this work, but none have been as delicate and petite. The scale is very unusual. It is a bag, 18 x 13 inches including fringe and to my experience much more interesting than others I've seen. The back is block printed cotton. The red and yellow borders are Chinese silk brocade. This is not a late piece like most examples to this work which seem to be from the early 20th century. This piece stands out among others for its scale, materials and age. It is certainly a 19th century piece. There are likely not many collectors for such a thing since most examples of this work are late and not that remarkable, but this one captures something very real and soulful which is hard to convey in these digital images shot in both full sunlight and interior light. It's the cats meow if you like such things. The one to have and reasonable.
