This very lovely, circa 1930 oversized Peking Chinese Oriental rug measures 10’0” x 16’9” (304 x 515 cm). It has an old ivory colored field with a center medallion consisting of a large rondele of flowers (lotus blossoms and peonies) with two large butterflies. The four corners are worked in a motif consisting of a rockery from which is sprouting a large flowering tree with two butterflies flitting around. The field motif has six sprays of flowers in three colors of blue, a little peach, lavender and a splash of coral. The minor inner border has a medium pale blue ground with butterflies and flowers in ivory, peach, brown and lavender. The major border has meandering sprays of flowers and vines with potted plants on tables in each corner, all on a dark blue ground. This rug is in perfect, mint condition.
