1600s / 17th Century Safavid silk / gold brocade.
This antique purse was custom made out of 17th Century Safavid textiles. The purse was crafted in the early 20th Century in either London or New York and there is a stamp inside that says "Especially made for banschoffs (?) in France." The textiles are early Safavid gold brocades and it is essentially a fully bordered rectangular textile panel with triangular sides. There must have been two gold or jeweled buttons at some point for the loops to hold on to. The knots that once held the button remain. If 'opened,' the framed panel would measure approx 8 x 14 inches.
