Here is a beautiful 19th. century Kurdish Khorjin face (saddle bag face),
pile woven with thick, lustrous, soft wool. My photos do not capture the shinny patina of the Persian Kurdish wool. All natural colors starting with a deep natural black/brown UN-dyed wool, a soft dusty rose, an electric blue, soft deep green, a soft purple used in the border (this is not synthetic analyne purple - it is a natural dye). Then we have a natural white and a soft yellow used for the flowers. Notice how the diagonal right guard border seems to go underneath the main field, this was the weavers way of giving more depth to the picture she was weaving - the older weavers were very aware of these effects in their weaving. The size is 32" x 32" (81cm x 81cm). Lovely tribal art.
