An important museum grade 17th century Imperial Chinese antique silk and gold brocade fragment of a dragon robe from Kangxi period of Qing / Tsing / Ching dynasty. Chinese Imperial dynasties spanned centuries. The Qing / Ching dynasty was established in 1644 and finished in 1912. Kangxi was the fourth emperor and his reign began in 1661 and went on for 61 years making it the longest running reign in Chinese history. Emperor Kangxi not only unified China but also under his reign some of the most magnificent arts, crafts and textiles. The imperial dragon robes (worn only by those within the court) were some of the most sophisticated textiles ever seen as shown by the beauty of this fragment. Complete examples go for a fortune at auctions. This beautiful fragment shows a magnificently textured dragon with five claws brocaded on a orange / brown red silk ground. The detail of the dragons scales, the majestic clouds in elegant colours is simply a work of art. This rare piece came from a very good us collection. It is from the early periods of Kangxi period and very rare piece. a good fragment from the centre dragon of a jifu. With natural age patina and in good shape. It would add nicely in any top collection. Offered at a very good price considering its rarity. For inquiries please email directly to: istalificollections@outlook.com.
