Chinese Ethnic Minority rope knotted utilitarian bag...
Made from Hand rolled jute or hemp, this Chinese rope bag was made and commonly used by the Yi ethic minority. There is a change in the knot pattern which differentiates the sides from the bottom of the bag.
Curiously, the silver butterfly ornament is from the Miao ethnic minority, possibly, indicating a mixed marriage in the family history. The bag is roughly 70 years old...
Because such items were in daily utilitarian use...not many have survived...I was lucky to get this one and it has been in my private collection for 15-20 years...
Bag is roughly 9 inches x 15 inches...measured flat
The bag is in good condition but it is dirty...I have not attempted to wash it
