Odd Fellows triple links, Indiana. Made of strung bottle caps, each link is 8" (20.3 cm) long with overall length of 19" (48.2 cm), Early 20th century, Ex. Thomas and Audrey Metzger Odd Fellows Collection.
These three chain links are made of hundreds of bottle caps, a form of tramp art from the 1920s and 30s, which have been sprayed with black paint. They were collected from an Odd Fellows lodge in Indiana and symbolize the fellowship's motto of Amicitia, Amor et Veritas or "Friendship, Love and Truth." Photo below is an old image of the three linked chain above the Eye of Providence, symbols of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, which began in Manchester, England, 26 April 1819.
