19th, early 20th century Bulgarian bed cover. 220 x 230 Cms. Handspun wool, all natural and undyed colors. Rare piece, made by Bulgarians who were called 'Pomaks', Turkish speaking Bulgarians converted to the Islam under Ottoman rule. Rodope Mauntains South-East Bulgaria. Minimalistic design avant la lettre. Made in narrow rows of 35 Cm and stiched together. The backside has a new cotton fabric the sides all stiched. Ready to use. not a museum approach but hygienic and meant for a household. Old lead seal - see detail photo.
