Damascene Silk Sura Panel, Early 20th Century. It is the Surat el Ikhlass (Loyalty) and reads: Kul huwa allahu ahad Allahu el samad Lam yalid wa lam yulad Wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad Translation: Say He is God (who is one) God the eternal refuge He neither begets nor is born Nor is there to Him any equivalent The colors are reversed on the back side. It was possibly used as a small wall hanging in a mosque or medrese and may have been accompanied by other similar panels bearing other suras to form a collection of important suras. Size is 28 x 67 cm.
