Beautiful vintage huipil from either Tactic or San Pedro Carcha, Alta Verapaz, Guatemala. From a the collection of a well-known museum. Collector also known. All provenance will be given to the buyer only. The collector was in Guatemala at various times in the 1930's and 1940's. It was accessioned in 1955. i am dating this huipil to the 1940's, though it may be a bit earlier. Cotton base with cotton supplementary wefts. The red and blue have a sheen and may be rayon, silk or probably mercerized cotton.
Very good condition for age. Possibly never worn. See photographs, which were taken outdoors without a flash on a sunny day.
