Beautiful vintage huipil from San Martin Jilotepeque, Chimaltenango, Guatemala. Possibly ceremonial. From a the collection of a well-known museum. Collector also known. All provenance will be given to the buyer only. The collector was in Guatemala at various times in the 1930's and 1940's. It was accessioned in 1955. i am dating this huipil to the 1940's, though it may be a bit earlier. Cotton base with cotton and silk supplementary wefts. Some may be rayon and/or mercerized cotton. Velvet trim at neck and armholes. Short zipper at neck. Good condition for age. It has a couple of small repairs. See photographs, which were taken outdoors without a flash on a sunny day.
