#5454 Karabaugh Antique Caucasian Rug
This mid 19th century Karabaugh antique Oriental rug measures 6’7” x 12’2”. It has a mid 18th century design. It is a modified Herati design where the fish shapes have taken on birdlike symbolism. It has a single border with machine surged edges. One end is complete. The other end is missing the border. It shows general wear at one end but is rather nice throughout the field. There are two places about the size of a finger that have been crudely repaired. This is a very well drawn rug with a crispness of design that speaks to its nomadic origins. The dyes are all vegetable. Some of these Karabaugh are hard to date. This rug could be a lot older than i think it is.
