a beautiful antique Uzbek Nurata silk embroidered suzani / susani , dating to the last 19th Century. It is relatively large piece with flat stitched (basma stitched) silk embroidery on a cotton ground known as Karbos. It boasts classic Nurata design. a central star is at the centre of the field with an array of floral bouquets and individual flowers arranged sporadically arranged around it. The empty spaces of the field contrasts beautifully with the detailed floral designs. The narrow borders boast a magnificent arrangement of repeating floral designs that consist of disks, shrubs, tulips, each with intricate detail. The beautiful colours really help bring out the design. It is in good overall shape. It has natural age patina and some staining. But this is reflected in the low price and doesn't distract.
