Chinese Minority Textile: Antique wedding blanket, circa late 19th CE/early 20th ce, from the Miao ethnic group, Antai District, Guangxi , China. This is tightly woven in three panels, from very fine handspun cotton thread and silk floss yarn supplementary weft “well” pattern. The black cotton lattice gives the pattern depth. The wide woven-in border has a “wanzi” swastika meander pattern that seamlessly transitions from the black cotton to silk pastel. There is a simple repair on the edge (noted in enlargements) as well as a few very small holes, as expected from a 100+ year old piece. l: 144cm/56in and w: 87cm/34in.
