a typical small village where alpujarra rugs are woven in many homes. They are at altitudes of 4000 to 5000 feet and one, Trevelez, is the highest village in Spain. Populations are in the few hundreds. i have seen several Alpujarra rugs bearing dates fron the late 1700s and many from the 1800s.
There are around 50 small villages, many with looms, where these simple rugs have been woven for centuries. Wool, cotton and recycled materials are used to weave rugs which have many uses as bedding and floor decoration. Reference 2964. Size 250 x 140 cms., or 8ft. 3ins. x 4ft. 7ins. Euros 185.
