An excellent and rare antique Uzbek silk adras Ikat hanging from Bukhara / Bokhara, dating to the 3rd quarter of the 19th century. This beautiful example is a silk warp and red cotton weft Ikat (a technique associated with older examples of this textile art form). It has an exceptionally detailed design. Cypress tree motifs or adamlyk motifs repeat in red, white and two shades of indigo and is interspersed with large sun motifs and smaller boteh motifs in red against a gorgeous yellow colour. The five colours (applied using tie dye technique) is magnificent and all derived from natural dyes.. Often ikats with over five colours were considered as some of the most sophisticated examples because of the complexity of tie dye weaving. The condition is good with two repairs and a few small stains that does not distract the beauty. It is a gorgeous example offered at a reasonable price. Size: 205cm x 109cm (81” x 43”)
