These are finely woven textiles of ceremonial importance within Aymara culture. Aymara speaking people live at more than 12,500 feet above sea level in the high Andes and have been spinning, dying and weaving with fine alpaca fiber for well over 2000 years. During the 19th century they made the finest animal fiber warp-faced textiles in the world.
