Antique South East Caucasian Shirvan rug with 'gymyl' design, often known as the dragon motif.
Circa 1900.
The rug is a good example with bold design and striking contrast of colours, the ivory design stands out against the fine field lattice design in indigo blue and madder red. The border design is floral rosettes on a light indigo blue ground. a striking rug of small size.
The rug is in very good condition with slight even wear and good pile. There are old hanging loops attached to the reverse which may account for the excellent condition.
The rug is suitable for normal domestic use.
