Antique Turkish Gaziantep Rug. 2nd Half 19th Century. Three archaic ivory outlined hexagonal medallions float on deep cochineal field. Framed by gorgeous ivory floral border and saturated colors throughout. Soft, lustrous wool and handle is floppy. Condition: Flat woven ends incomplete. Two slits on left selvage. Some foundation showing around center medallion with two holes. Knicks to right selvage. 3’3 x 6’3. 7 Colors. Carefully hand washed. Great wall hanging art.
End note: In William Eagleton's book: "An Introduction to Kurdish Rugs and other Weavings," on page 132. Eagleton states: "White borders, which are the most attractive, are the rarest."
