Antique Caucasian Dagestan rug with lattice design on a dark charcoal ground.
Circa 1880.
a very good example of type with very nicely drawn lattice design, the lattice is in soft yellow on a dark charcoal ground. Within the lattice are small shrubs and other devices, of particular note are the four large and one small human figures.
The rug has a classic border design which frames the rug well.
The rug has slight even wear and good pile, the charcoal ground is corroded giving the rug a sculpted look. The rug has excellent wool and is very soft to the touch.
Hand washed and ready for use or display, the rug is suitable for light domestic use.
