Rare and beautiful fragment of a 17th/18th century Karapinar rug with directional palmettes and stylised tulips, Central Anatolia. An example with this pattern is in the Al-Sabah Collection, Kuwait National Museum and another was recently auctioned by Sotheby's London (7 November 2017, lot 57), both on a yellow ground. The present piece is the only one known on a blue ground. Stabilised on a black cotton fabric, the rug measures 134 x 77 cm. For further reading, please see p.
