a 19th Century South Caucasian (Karabakh?) rug. Size 245 x 158 cm An inscribed large South Caucasian, possibly Karabakh, rug. The pile is mostly evenly worn with heavy wear in places; a fragment of Kilim has been patched in the border at some point in the past. Good vibrant colours and a Bordjalou influenced main border. The inscription may read either 1249 or 1349 (1833 or 1930? i am happy to be enlightened on this) a further unusual feature is that the foundation is almost all cotton with some short widths of the weft in brown wool. Brocaded top kilim end extant, fragments of kilim remain at the other.
