An exceptional antique Turkoman Turkmen Chodor tribe silk embroidered sleeve (opened) dating to the19th century. Chodor silk needlework were often done on red bannat trade cloth and were some of the finest of all central Asian embroideries as reflected by the intricate beauty of this piece . They were often made into these elaborate robes with intricately embroidered sleeves (from one of which this piece came) or hats and other garments. They have always been rare. The quality of the chain stitched embroidery, the archaic beauty of the design and the magnificence of the colours of this examples makes it one of the most coveted examples of the genre. The sleeve is opened and one can only imagine how a full robe would have looked like. They are extremely valuable and collectible. It has natural age wear but there is enough there to make it a wonderful textile art. You don’t see examples as old as this often. Colours are much richer than the photos show. Size: 38cm (15”) x 26cm (10”). For inquiries please email directly to: istalificollections@outlook.com.
