The surface appears embossed because the black is corrosive and worn shorter, though no wear to the foundation. Red is virtually fill pile of fine, soft wool. There are two shades of red, and the diamond grid of the field is arranged into diagonal rows of these two shades, though these two reds are so subtly different that this pattern is barely discernable.
