Antique Afshar rug with first rate color and bold eye catching drawing. The weaver paid great attention to the beautifully colored borders, even adding extra border panels at top and bottom. All excellent saturated natural colors including lovely light sky blues, good tomato reds, true greens and pretty yellow highlights. Mostly good even tight pile. Typical corroded Afshar blue ground. Crudely repaired small tear in upper border. Scattered old superficial moth nibbles. As found, could use a light wash. Ca. 1880 or earlier. Great nearly square size, 4’6” x 5’.
