Warp faced stripes of intense color. Aymara ritual coca cloth (Incuna) . Middle 19th century. Size: 24 x 20 inches. Most coca cloths are larger in size, but this piece belongs to a rare type that are almost miniatures. These smaller coca cloths are not common and had a special usage meant for the display of ritual and fetish objects in various shamanic rites. Aymara textiles are sometimes hard to capture in a photograph because of the fineness of the weave. Because of this one needs to shoot details rather closely if the colors are to be understood.
