Back
Shasavan or maybe Dagestan/Talish, 19th century. All rising dragon motifs going in one direction on a camel field with pendants at both ends. There is a good amount of aubergine and corroded black dye. i don't recall ever seeing this pattern before and i would love for anyone to show me another one like it. The weave reminds me of a Dagestan with a smooth leathery type feel. The rosettes in the field and in the border remind me of designs found in Talish (see example of the last photo). The fake fringe should be easy to remove, and it looks to me that there would be no design loss as a result. It is as found. There is a very tiny repair in one end border rosette, almost indistinguishable, otherwise, it is all original except for the fringe, of course. There is one small stain that can be seen in the last photo. i did not try to remove it. It has not been cleaned. I'm sure a good wash will further enhance its beauty. It measures 2.9 x 7 feet. Thanks for looking.
