Back
An excellent antique Central Asian silk embroidered belt with original leather backing, pocket and gilded insert buckle. It dates to late 19th century and it is an excellent example work by a man over a robe. It resembles a lot of the Lakai tribe cross stitch belts but since the stitching is iroqi stitch (a semi cross stitched technique) it is likely the work of rural areas around the city of Shahrisabz. Their belts often used this stitch. Rich saturated colours render a very unique design. The main motif is repeating mosque with intricate borders around it. i have only seen a few belts with this design. It has natural age patina and sporadic natural wear, but all original and nothing distracting. It is a beautiful and rare ethnographic piece, both collectible and can be worn. Offered at good price. size. Length 40" (102cm). Width 3.5" (9cm). For inquiries please email directly to: istalificollections@outlook.com.
