Antique Traditional Chinese Miao Ethnic Minority festival jacket...
pre 1940
The embroidery technique is called "daizi" which is a complex system of loops and knots...
This technique was explained to me back in the 90's while traveling through China...but frankly, even then i could not follow the "instructions"...but i can recognize it when i see it...
The basic fabric is a Jacquard weave with traditional chinese symbols but being black on black only the faintest hint of this can be seen on the pic of the back of the garment...
It makes a stunning display and is easily wearable...by a small to medium sized woman...
All hand stitched...they did not have sewing machines back in the hills of China
