Antique Chinese table runner / alter cloth, hand embroidered silk on beige silk damask with cloud motifs, embroidery techniques include satin stitch, long and short stitch to create color shading, couching of metal threads, and a small amount of "forbidden stitch", the design is interesting, in the lower left corner is an offering plate, with a peach and a hand of Buddha fruit in it, a pomegranate is featured in the central vase, together these represent the "three fortunate fruits" and symbolize abundance and plenty; there are four types of flowers issuing from the central vase all from the same stem, these are the blossoms of the four seasons; above the offering plate is the wheel of the law, and next to the central vase sit scholar's scrolls, the minor border is butterflies, the main border is silk brocade with phoenix birds, i think the main border is not as old, and probably replaced the original border, it is backed in yellow silk, the approximate size is 14 inches wide by 13.5 inches tall, there are missing silk threads and loose metal threads, minor staining, the base silk damask is tattered and splitting between the two borders both top and bottom, the textile needs to be handled gently to prevent further damage, it would be beautiful framed which also would help to preserve it, #7180, shipping is extra
