Eastern Anatolian compartment rug with hooked medallions. 1st quarter of the 19th century. Bold design and color with distinctive apricot and light blue/green leaning towards turquoise. It has beautiful glossy wool. There may be Turkic antecedents here in design but in color and weave this is Kurdish. Related examples have been represented by Serkan Sari and Alberto Boralevi in recent years. As tribal weavings, they are often misshapen and damaged or fragmentary. This example is among the oldest examples and in generally very good condition. Size: 93 x 39 inches
