Fine and rare five paneled skirt, from the Meifu subgroup of the Li people Hainan Island, circa mid 20th century. This kind of ikat textile is unique among Chinese minority groups. i would date this 1950/1960) is hand spun cotton and indigo with abstract human and animal designs. Superb condition with no holes or frays, there is one stain noted in enlargement 2 (could just be a bit of brown thread though). l: 102cm/ 40in and h: 59cm/23in (stitched together) x 2 for total size.
