Three redware tangas, Marajoara culture, Marajo Island, Para, Brazil. 6.25 to 7 inches wide (15.8 to 17.7 cm), Ca. 500-1400 a.d.. Ex Jean-Eugene Lyons collection, Geneve, Switzerland. Tangas are thin concave triangular ceramic pubic covers found in burial mounds associated with females. The holes at the corners are believed to be string holes, meant to attach the artifact to the body.
