Back
a beautiful antique Uzbek ilgich tent hanging made of silk velvet / bakhmal Ikat face with silk needlepoint embroidery on the trim and silk embroidered back side. It dates to last quarter of the 19th century. Such shield designed hangings with silk tassels are often associated with tribal groups of the Uzbeks (mainly Lakai or Rural kungrat) and referred to as Uut Kap Ilgich. But velvet ikats were urban textiles and some of the most coveted fabrics made in the Emirates of Bukhara. So expensive even fragments would be recycled and repurposed into other textiles, especially by tribal groups. This is one such example. The colours are beautiful. The design archaic. There is a beautiful embroidery on the back with talismanic motifs. It is in good overall shape with lovely tassels. Size 47cm x 28cm (18.5" x 11"), tassels drop an extra 27cm (10.5”).
