This is a late 19th century Afshar Salt Bag that measures 1.2 x 1.8 feet. It was an all-wool foundation and is made using 100% natural vegetable dyes. a salt bag almost identical to the one is featured in Parviz Tanavoli book Bread and Salt, on page Page 183 can be seen in the last picture in this post. It states that a piece like this is woven by the Afshar tribe to the South Kerman. This is a rare utilitarian textile in great condition with only a few moth bites on the field on the front piled part.
