#7297 Antique silk Sivas Turkish
Rug
This circa 1880 silk Sivas prayer rug measures 4’2’ x 5’5’. It is the coupled column variety on a turquoise ground with a nice abrash running through it. The spandrels above the prayer niche are pale peach with darker peach flower heads in a mosaic pattern coming to a turquoise bar above them with a row of tulips in peach on an ivory background which stand out nicely against the turquoise ground containing a modified geometric tree of life motif. This continues up to a second crossbar which is very odd containing what very much look like one complete and two half Turkoman guls. The major border encompassing the entire rug is composed of flower heads in dark peach to dark sienna alternating with very pale sea green flower heads. This rug is an absolutely perfect condition. It must be seen to be enjoyed properly. It is very light and does not photograph well. It is clean and ready to go.
