A well-modeled Khmer Empire, "Owl" jar for powdered lime, Cambodia, Angkor period, 11-12 c. Globular form of dense, heavy stoneware potting with suggestions of feathers under a pale clear celadon glaze, minor old chips. Flat bottom shows a faint impression of a thumbprint, presumably by the original potter in the moist clay prior to firing, as a signature. approx. 5" dia x 4" high.
