This is an antique Tachte Shirvan rug woven during the last quarter of the 19th century circa 1880. It has a rare powder blue background color with an even more rare alien theme with spaceships, Mihrabs, and zoomorphic figures at both ends of the field. The zoomorphic figures have two sizes, one larger and one smaller, with the larger possibly representing a male figure and the smaller one a female. The mihrab above and below the central spaceship motifs could represent the alien’s ascension to the heavens. Regardless of the speculation behind the meanings of these motifs within the rug industry, this piece has an overall design that is highly decorative making it both an extremely rare collector’s item and an interior decorator’s dream rug. Its size is 4ft x 5.5 ft. and it’s in overall good condition. It has two small problem areas one located at the top of the rug, and one repair located on the side edge of the rug which has been done many years ago. It also needs a good washing.
