Antique Caucasian Kuba region Perepedil rug with an indigo blue ground and classic Kufic border. www.knightsantiques.co.uk
Size: 4ft 7in x 3ft 7in (140 x 110cm).
Circa 1880.
This rug is an excellent example of a small size Perepedil with a very well drawn field. The colour range is excellent and includes a good soft green, shades of madder red and a pleasing yellow. The design contains well drawn dragons along with rams horn devices. Note the small floral boxes in the lower corners of the field. The Kufic border is excellent, the inner guard is of linked stars and the outer guard is of the traditional reciprocal design.
The rug is in excellent condition with even wear and medium pile, the ends are original with slight losses in places which have been secured.
The rug is suitable for light domestic use.
The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display.
