Quchan Kurd Soumac small carpet, ca.1890; 5’4” x 8’11” / 163 x 272 cm. Field populated by a diaper pattern of concentric stepped diamonds, with an “elem” panel of diamonds set between two angular running-dog borders. Side borders show interlocking “s” shapes in red and blue. At the extreme ends, three borders, red-blue-red, bearing chevrons, thereafter, a narrow striped flatweave border, and the original fringes.
