Kurdish/ Loori small carpet/ large rug, ca.1890; 5’8” x 11’0” / 68 x 335cm.
Beautifully drawn field and border motifs, including those of four women, each individual, set amongst two large indigo
hexagons composed of diamonds and triangles subdivided by zig-zagged, or stepped double lines. Outside the
hexagons, three sets of triangles in red. All these shapes bear whimsically rendered blossoms, florets, and small
quadrupeds. Two more female figures are set in the white ground main border amongst lushly depicted four-petal blooms.
The minor borders show diagonal stripes, and a floral meander.
The condition is good overall with wear commensurate with the rug’s age; there is re-sewn “v” cut.
Please examine the photos carefully.
