Back
Uzbek long rug/ carpet with Gabbeh weave, ca. 1890, 4’11” x 11’9” / 150 x 358 cm.
Three shade of red in the ground, two madder reds and one slightly tip-faded red-violet which may be
fuchsine. The field bears two columns of three and a half “Memling”-like concentric hooked diamonds
with short band of triangles at their centers. At the sides, borders composed of similar paired triangles
in dark olive/white, red/green, yellow/ red, and indigo/ red. The end borders are composed of dark olive/ yellow
stripes framing a band of connected hexagons. The condition is quite good and the carpet retains its original
fringes. it has some wear, though slight, predictable for its age with faint traces of old moth bite. Please examine
all photos carefully.
