Antique Ersari Jajim Horse-cover, ca. 1890; 5’1” x 4’8” / 155 x 132 cm *
*(Add an extra 6” / 15 cm to include length of tassels)
Flatwoven Jajim horse-cover. Decoration composed of vertical stripes: alternate
columns of indigo plain weave and columns with reversed “s” motifs and
rams-horn like “X”-es. These are woven in medium-blue/teal, ivory, and salmon-pink.
Directly beneath each totemic stripe, there are two tassels woven in matching colors.
One tassel beneath the plain. a few of these are partial or missing. Along the lower
end there are two lines of securing threads, one a herringbone of teal/red and red/blue;
the other below, in salmon orange.
There is a line of red stitches, presumably intended to reinforce the inner right corner.
An applied patch of Japanese print fabric is found on the verso of the 6th stripe from the right—
also a repair-patch at the lower right corner.
Please examine photos closely.
