antique quashkai rug -- Which has an immense depth of colours together with a silky lustrous sheen when wafted. The weaver has drawn extensively from the botany, bird and mammel life around her and supplemented these designs with religious and superstitious motifs. The rug is low in places and a few small areas are corroded. There is a small tear in the bottom right hand corner which i have secured, but not restored. i have reflected this in the price. It will make a wonderful cover for bed, bench, table, wall hanging and quiet floor area (pad underneath please). Back in 1976 in the dark ages of electronics before the net when we depended on text books for information, the courageous Manchester University in collaboration with The Whitworth Art Gallery held an exhibition called "The Quashkai of Iran" and published an excellent book of the contents. i believe it was made into a documentary series afterwards by the bbc.
